Parker Waichman Investigating Anthropic Over Allegedly False AI Reports to Police; Firm Represents Individual Subjected to Law Enforcement Visit

National Law Firm Examining Potential AI Design Defects, Reputational Harm, and Emotional Distress Following Reports of Fabricated Accusations
PORT WASHINGTON, N.Y., Oct. 13, 2026 /PRNewswire/ — Parker Waichman LLP announced today that it is investigating potential legal claims against Anthropic PBC and evaluating similar incidents involving other artificial intelligence platforms following reports that AI systems generated false information communicated to law enforcement.

The firm currently represents an individual who alleges that an Anthropic AI system falsely identified her as a potential threat to herself and her coworkers. Following the allegedly fabricated report, law enforcement officers visited her home. The individual maintains that the allegations were entirely false.
The investigation follows an October 9, 2026, report by The Philadelphia Inquirer, also covered by The New York Times, concerning an Anthropic AI model that reportedly submitted fabricated information to a Philadelphia police homicide tip website. Although that submission was intercepted by a spam filter before prompting police action, the incident raises serious questions about the safeguards governing AI-generated communications with law enforcement.
“These are not simply technical glitches. When an AI system falsely identifies an innocent person as a threat, the consequences can be devastating,” said Jason Goldstein, Senior Litigation Counsel at Parker Waichman LLP. “Our client experienced those consequences firsthand when law enforcement officers arrived at her home following an allegedly fabricated report. False accusations can damage reputations, cause significant emotional distress, and subject innocent individuals to unwarranted police intervention.”
Parker Waichman is investigating whether defects in the design of AI systems, inadequate safeguards, or failures to anticipate foreseeable risks have allowed false or fabricated information to reach law enforcement and other third parties. The firm is also examining whether AI developers knew or should have known of these risks and failed to take appropriate precautions.
“The central issue is accountability,” Goldstein added. “Companies developing and deploying artificial intelligence must account for the foreseeable harm their products can cause. We are evaluating whether these incidents reflect broader design and safety failures and whether individuals harmed by those failures have viable legal claims.”
